Following the recent scrub clearance carried out at Grand Shaft Barracks site it has become apparent that this effort is part of a larger project.

The main project designed to transform the barracks site started today and is to last around 13 weeks.  170 trees are going to be felled, the area cleared of all rubbish and the steep banks will be scarped with chalk and topsoil and then grassed.

It is projected that once this has been done the area will be re-fenced and a cattle grid installed and like other areas of the Heights, Dexter cattle will be free to roam there.  All vehicular access will be stopped.

This is a major step towards turning a liability into a town asset.  The project is being funded by Dover District Council and its partners and will cost around £250,000.

We will bring pictures of this to you as they become available.
