On a routine trek around the Heights on Saturday last, May 8, we noticed scaffolding had been erected on the grand southern casemated barracks at the Western Outworks. The reason for this appears to be to enable security grilles to be fitted on the inside of the windows/embrasures of the barracks. Because of the new security fence fitted around the barracks last May access to the building was pretty near impossible and hopefully these new gratings will deter even the most determined vandals. More information will be shared as it becomes available.
