The Society’s First Volunteer Project – June 9, 2001

As mentioned in the Society’s first newsletter ‘Dover Lines’, we have been fully kitted out with a good selection of tools, provided by Comeback 2000, a charity that supported the re-education and participation of young offenders into appropriate external projects.

The project day was held on June 9, and was at the old North Military Road, where the road bends round to go over the double drawbridge system, and entailed removing excess growth from the side of the road which currently covers part of the original pavement. The White Cliffs Countryside Project previously did  the other side of the road and these two jobs have helped to clean the area up and show off some of the hidden architecture.

A total of ten Society members turned out to help and a massive 50 wheel barrow-loads of rubbish, brambles, grass and scrub were removed.

Our thanks to the White Cliffs Countryside Project for their invaluable help.
